Battery pack sealing

Battery pack sealing

Ensuring a high quality seal plays a crucial role in the performance and durability of electric car batteries, protecting their components from water infiltration and other adverse environmental conditions.

Battery pack gaskets must comply with strict design standards and regulations relating to the casing.

For example, IP68 certification ensures the gasket offers effective protection against the ingress of water, corrosion and external contaminants.

Automation process for the application of gaskets

To meet these standards, B-Fluid proposes automated solutions for the application of a bead of mono or bicomponent material around the perimeter of the battery pack, adopting two main approaches:

  • Cure-in-Place Gasketing (CIPG): The dispensed material hardens before assembly, creating a compression seal at the battery pack junction.
  • Form-In-Place Gasketing (FIPG): The material is dispensed and assembled immediately, allowing the material to harden over time.

In order for the gasket to be strong and reliable, it is essential that the application of the gasket is carried out in a clean, precise, and repeatable manner. Key elements include the accurate positioning of the bead, the flow rate, the volume of the material dispensed, and the correct mixing ratios for the bicomponent materials.
